Mirzapur 2 review: This season lacks the charm of season 1

Mirzapur season 2 is finally out. Is it really worth the wait and the hype? Read on to know.

MUMBAI: Finally, the wait of fans all over the globe was over as Mirzapur 2 released.

Mirzapur 1, ever since it was released, was the talk of the town. The show was loved for its gripping storytelling, amazing performances, and solid screenplay. It ended at a cliffhanger, leaving us extremely curious.

The show became of one of the best ones of all time and created a special place in the hearts of the audiences.

For two years, fans were eagerly waiting for the second season of the show to know what will happen next. So is this season worth the wait and the hype?

The story starts from where the first season ended and the wedding massacre we saw in season 1. Now, Guddu, played by Ali Fazal, is in lethal form to take revenge from Munna, played by Divyendu. On the other hand, Sharad Shukla is eagerly waiting to take revenge from the killers of his father and acquire Mirzapur, whereas Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) is trying to manage the throne, his son, and political connections at the same time.

Well, in this crime thriller where half the people are in the process of taking revenge from the other half, who will win and who will lose will be interesting to see. We will also know who will finally acquire the Gaddi of Mirzapur.

The screenplay is very loose and may fail to keep the attention of the audiences. The show starts off well, with an emotional angle, but loses track and deviates from the main topic many times, leaving us bored in between. However, later, when the story moves nearer to the climax, it gets back on track. The direction is decent but nothing extraordinary compared to season 1.

Talking about the performances, Pankaj Tripathi has delivered a good performance, but at times, we feel the character is not well used. Kaleen Bhaiya could have been more strongly portrayed. On the other hand, Divyendu Sharma in the role of Munna is decent enough to hold your attention. Ali Fazal as the lethal Guddu, who is seeking revenge from the Tripathis, looks great on screen and has delivered an amazing performance. Shweta Tripathi was amazing in her role. She was the surprise package as Golu Gupta. Other actors like Vijay Verma, Isha Talwar, Amit Sial, Anangsha Biswas, Rajesh Tailang, Sheeba Chaddha, Harshita Gaur, Anjum Sharma, Priyanshu Painyuli, and Dibyendu Bhattacharya were okay in their parts.

Season 1 was known for its solid writing, but the writing in season 2 was little weak. We do see the revenge saga, but the series is way too stretched out at many points.

The positive points of the series are the new cast, as they bring some freshness on screen. Guddu also brings some high points in the show, and the performances of the leads will keep you hooked, especially Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, Shweta Tripathi, and Isha Talwar.

The negatives are the weak writing. The 10 episodes keep going off track due to the confused writing, and we don't get the feeling that we are watching Mirzapur. The charm and the essence of what we have seen in season 1 are missing.

Overall, this revenge saga is a decent, one-time watch.

Team TellyChakkar goes with 2.5 stars for Mirzapur 2.
