Money Matters: Muskaan Agarwal’s Bold Take on Love in Today’s World

MUMBAI: As Valentine's Day fills the air with romance, not everyone gets swept away by the idealistic notions of love. Actress Muskaan Agarwal, known for her role in the web series Shraap, has offered a refreshingly bold perspective on love, emphasising the undeniable role of financial stability in relationships.

Speaking candidly, Muskaan shared, "I am single and haven’t been in a relationship for the past four years. If I fall in love, I will do so wholeheartedly, without hesitation. In today’s fast-paced world, I do not believe in situationships. While love is important, money plays a crucial role—because love alone cannot fill one’s stomach."

She went on to reflect on how her views on love have evolved over time. "I used to believe in old-school romance, but as time passed, my perspective changed. The world is evolving, and even after 14 years of marriage, people are choosing to part ways. Our parents' generation was perhaps the last one that truly valued lifelong commitment."

Muskaan firmly believes that in today’s reality, love and money go hand in hand. "I do not think social media is solely responsible for this shift; rather, people have adapted to their surroundings. Even in rural areas, relationships are often abandoned for financial reasons," she added.

Addressing the influence of social media, she remarked, "Love today is more about flaunting it online rather than keeping it private. People have always engaged in such behaviour, but before social media, their actions were limited to personal albums or stored on their phones. I do not blame social media for changing relationships—if I experience something special, I would love to share my happiness with the world. Social media acts as a bridge for people to spread their joy."

Muskaan also offered some practical advice for those navigating modern relationships. "My advice is to be cautious and not let emotions overpower logic. Trust is the foundation of love—without it, a relationship cannot survive. Partners should grant each other freedom and avoid unnecessary doubts. Unfortunately, people have become overly possessive these days. First, learn to love yourself, and then think about loving someone else. Prioritise building your career before diving into a relationship."

For Muskaan, the purest form of love is that between a parent and child. "If someone cannot be truly devoted to their own mother and father, how can they be loyal to another person? A mother’s love is the only form of unconditional love," she stated.

Concluding her thoughts, she pointed out how love today has become fleeting. "Nowadays, love changes as easily as clothes. Power and position often dictate the presence of love in one’s life. I do not believe in the idea of blind, foolish love."

Muskaan’s unapologetic stance on love and relationships is a wake-up call in an era where emotions and practicality must go hand in hand.
