MUMBAI: After keeping fans waiting for more than four years, Made in Heaven is back with another season. The Zoya Akhtar-Reema Kagti creation stars Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur in the lead roles.
While many would expect the show to work wonders for their career, Arjun revealed that results were far too short of expectations. The actor, as readers would know, had even won a nomination at the International Emmy Awards 2020 in the Best Actor category.
During the promotions of Made in Heaven 2, Arjun also spoke about how his character went on to win hearts. He also went on to share beautiful stories about the feedback he received from the LGBTQ community.
The actor played a homosexual character Karan and through him the audience got to understand the complexities of a closeted gay man and adversities they face in finding true love.
“Honestly, I was not prepared for the way Karan would touch tangible human lives, I just didn’t anticipate it. There were so many people who reached out to me, it was heartening. I remember there was this mother of two young boys. She told me how she was uncomfortable with homosexuality before watching the show. She said now if one or both of them turn out to be gays, I will accept it with an open heart and give them twice the love. Also, when I was in Chicago, this couple who had recently got married traveled from far to meet me. They said that their parents were against it but agreed after watching Made in Heaven,” he shared with pride clear in his voice.
Arjun further added how it feels like a dream to be loved for his work. “Not everyone gets to touch human lives. Honestly these stories are far more rewarding. It feels so much more special than any award and recognition.”
We asked if the success of the web series also had a positive impact on his career with more and better work being offered. The actor dismissed the same saying, “Not as much as I would have liked it to be.”
Arjun reasoned that however it may have been partly because of him. “It may be partly because of the fact… Made in Heaven is amazing at it is but the concept, even being mass, is niche. It is also 80 percent in English. So it doesn’t make you a household or bankable name. But the journey has been amazing, it even got me an International Emmy nomination and I have a certificate and medal in my living room that I ironically look at everyday,” he shared with a smile.
