MUMBAI :Popular director Sujan Dasgupta, known for his Bengali detective OTT series Eken Babu passed away on Wednesday at his residence following a cardiac arrest. The director was 80 years old. His body was recovered from his home at a housing complex near the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass on Wednesday, the police stated.

The police said that Dasgupta was living alone since his wife had gone for a trip to Shantiniketan. Wednesday morning when the house help didn’t get any reply upon ringing the doorbell and banging on the door, she informed the neighbors who then called the Survey Park police station for help.
Sujan’s body was found in his bedroom and was sent immediately for post-mortem. The cops stated, “But given the circumstances under which the body was recovered, we had to send it for post-mortem as per the rules”
Actor Anirban Chakraborty who essayed the role of Eken Babu in the series said, “I just can’t believe this. I spoke to him over the phone only a couple of days back. He came to the city to attend the forthcoming Kolkata Book Fair. A new edition of the ‘Eken Babu’ series was supposed to be launched on the occasion. He even invited me to his place on January 24.”
