MUMBAI: When it comes to pure entertainment, the platform that never fails the fans to offer variety is ALTBalaji. From thrillers to bold stories and from love stories to drama, we get to see it all. Now, a much awaited series has finally been premiered. Paurashpur is a much hyped and talked about period drama set in a kingdom. It stars some amazing talent such as Shilpa Shinde, Sahil Salathia, Annu Kapoor, Anant Joshi, Shaheer Sheikh, Milind Soman, Flora Saini, and Poulomi Das and has been directed by Shachindra Vats.
The story is about a kingdom called Paurashpur where women are dominated by men at every level and are meant only for pleasing men. They are treated no less than prisoners. Bhadra Pratap Singh is the lusty king. However, very queen he marries goes missing. What is the reason behind this? Or this is a conspiracy?
The screenplay of this 7-episode series is decent and manages to hold your attention but for not for long. A few scenes are fast paced, but many are very slow. The direction is average.
A special mention must be made of the costume and the sets, which will completely blow your mind and enhance your viewing experience.

Talking about the performances, they are the only saving grace. Each actor has lived their character, and it was a treat watch them on screen in this never seen before avatar. Annu Kapoor was decent as the evil Raja Bhadra Pratap Singh, but the showstoppers are Milind Soman and Shilpa Shinde. They both are brilliant in the show. On the other hand, Shaher Shaikd had very less to offer. Anant Joshi, Flora Saini, and Poulomi Das were also good and have given their best shot.

The positive points of the show are mainly the performances of the leads and the lavish sets. The costumes were very well carried by all the actors. Moreover, it won’t be wrong to say that Shilpa Shinde and Milind Soman are the highlights of the show.
The negatives are that the storytelling is very fast in the beginning, which the audiences may find a little confusing. They may not connect with it at a few points. The story of the show is too weak and has nothing new to offer. The screenplay looks dragged at a few portions. Moreover, the intimate scenes looked forced at times.
The negative points outnumber the positives of the show, and overall, Paurashpur is a strictly average watch.
