MUMBAI: Actress Shalini Pandey recently brought attention to an animal welfare issue by sharing a video on social media showing a dehydrated horse pulling a carriage in Kolkata. The video captures the struggle of fallen horse, dehydrated and weak, pressured to carry the weight of a tourist ride in the city’s hot and humid conditions.
The actress shared video with caption which says,
"My heart is shattered into a million pieces seeing this.
This is beyond horrible!! It’s heartbreaking, cruel, and unacceptable!
No animal deserves to suffer like this. This horse needs to be rescued now. And so do the others still being forced to pull carriages in this heat, this traffic, this chaos.
It’s time we end this outdated, painful practice. Let’s replace these carriages with sleek, battery-operated, cruelty-free Victorian-style e-carriages just like Mumbai has done. Kolkata can too. India can too. The world can too.
We must become a voice for the voiceless. If you’re seeing this, please don’t look away. Raise your voice. Tag the authorities. Share this. Let’s make this world a kinder place starting right here, right now!!!!

Shalini’s post sparked conversation around the treatment of working animals in urban areas, especially those used for tourism.
In her caption, the actress expressed concern over the animal’s condition and urged for more awareness about the well-being of animals involved.
While the practice of using horse-drawn carriages remains a tradition in certain parts of India, voices like Shalini Pandey’s are bringing renewed focus to the welfare of these animals. Her post has contributed to an ongoing dialogue about the balance between tourism, tradition, and ethical treatment of animals, prompting reflection from both the public and authorities.
Earlier this month also she raised her voice against telangana deforestation where several animals lost their lives.
