In fact, the actress won the ‘Best Actress (series)’ award at the Indian Telly Streaming Awards 2024 for her performance and during the event, Sushmita Sen got in touch with Tellychakkar where we asked her how difficult it was to play the role of a transgender.

To this, Sushmita Sen said, “Bohot saare logo ke saah baith kar humare sessions hue. Hare k ka ek group hota hai, so we met with the entire group of transgender community members from Shreegauri Sawant’s own group. Then we had other actors, we had a total of 2000 actors who were brought in for different appearances in the film. Lekin sacchai sacchai hoti hai, as I was saying on stage agar aap apni imandari kisi bhi kirdaar mein leke aate hai toh usme sacchai dikh jati hai. But it was a lot of work to try and do justice to Shreegauri Sawant kyuki ultimately yeh unki kahaani hai and I’m so grateful to god that we’ve been able to do this and ek bohot zaroori baat yeh bhi hai ke jo transgender community hai, unke liye yeh accept karna, that a female actor would play them, yeh bhi bohot badi baat hai kyuki internationally yeh hua nahi hai and it’s always been men playing transgenders so it was a huge opportunity and I am so grateful to god that we could deliver.”
