MUMBAI: Actress Aarvika Gupta is currently being seen in an OTT series called Chidiya Udd. Her character Champa has a completely different look. It is so real and raw that on the very first day on set no one actually recognised her.
She says,”In the series I played the role of a drug-addict, HIV-positive prostitute, which was far from glamorous. So being into the part, I had to appear dull and unkempt. I avoided food and water on set to look weak and wore a simple, dirty and unwashed salwar suit. But I must mention that the makeup team did an incredible job creating my look. They darkened my skin tone, added marks, pimples, and gave me a rough, unhealthy skin texture. To make my hair look messy and damaged, they backcombed it heavily. It took them 2-3 hours to carefully add the marks and details on my face and hands. The transformation was so detailed that no one could recognize the real me.”
She also adds,”The first shot with the makeup and costume was memorable. As an actor we all know if you look the character on screen then half the battle is won. Then of-course your performance matters which actually makes the connection with the audience. The series is currently streaming on Amazon and am getting a lot of good feedback for my performance. Champa is a role which made a special place in my heart.”
Directed by Ravi Jadhav Chidiya Udd, a crime drama series based on Aabid Surti's novel Cages, has been released, showcasing a gripping tale set in Mumbai's underworld.
