MUMBAI: Many historic movies have come to tell us an untold tale of what happened during the days of freedom struggle, how freedom fighters fought back, how policies and regulations were applied and how Britishers took an exit. Everyone remembers the 1919 Jallian Wala Baug massacre but who truly knows what really happened and how it was all set up to take those innocent lives.
To tell us about what really happened during the Jallian Wala Baug massacre and what led to its manifestation, Ram Madhvani gave us ‘The Waking of The Nation’, starring Taaruk Raina, Sahil Mehta and Bhawsheel Singh. While Taaruk Raina is a really good actor, we must admit, he was a miscast in this one. However, it was refreshing to see Nikita Dutta.
Director Ram Madhvani, along with writers Shatrujeet Nath, and Shantanu Srivastava, attempted to show you the unseen side of Jallian Wala Baug massacre, the Hunter Commission, which for a long time felt like strong build-up that had no end. However, on the positive side, the series looked visually quite appealing and promising right from the beginning. The positive aspect of the series is that the story keeps you curious. The screenplay of the series is good and some of the series really get you hooked as to what’s going to happen next.
In conclusion, the series could have been much better with a better cast even though the actors have done their best. However, for everyone who wants to know what really went beyond the massacre and its aftermath, the show works fairly.
Tellychakkar gives this series 3/5 stars.
