Here's a complete guide to prep for combination skin on your special day

Wedding season 2023 is going to be all about stunning brides with glowing skin. Having a natural radiance is a boon for every bride-to-be.

MUMBAI: Wedding season 2023 is going to be all about stunning brides with glowing skin. Having a natural radiance is a boon for every bride-to-be. The only thing that can work in your favour is choosing the right products according to skin type and eating healthy food. There are ways you can prepare combination skin for the wedding day. Here's what the experts suggest -

What Is Combination Skin?

A combination dermal layer is also defined as ‘mixed skin’. It has a few areas that remain dry with the remaining part of the face getting oily. Usually, a T-zone is created. The forehead, chin and nose remain oily while the rest of the face remains dry.

Therefore, when you pick skincare products, you have to be cautious about what you buy and where you apply. If you apply highly moisturising products on the oily area, you will have issues like acne, blackheads, pimples and opened pores.

Hence, here is an easy guide for you.

Cleansing

You must cleanse your face twice a day using light cleansing milk or a mild face wash. If you have blackheads, use a scrub in that area only instead of rubbing it thoroughly all over your face.

Scrubbing

You must also avoid applying scrub on areas where you are experiencing rashes, dryness, acne and pimples. Dr Gupta suggests using natural scrubs like orange peel or walnut powder. These products will nourish the skin and stay mild on the dermal layer.

Husain has a recipe for a homemade scrub. You need dry mint (pudina) leaves and mix them with crushed sesame seeds (til) and honey. It will help to remove blackheads and whiteheads while repairing damage caused by the sun if any.

Rub the scrub gently on your face in a circular motion. Wash your face thoroughly after five minutes.

Dr Gupta suggests applying benzoyl peroxide to your face before going to bed at night, it helps  remove excess oil on your face, especially in the T-zone area and will moisturise the other dry areas as well. It acts as a natural exfoliant while leaving your skin feeling smooth, soft and flawless.

Toning

Rose-based toners are best for combination skin. Store rose water in the fridge, soak cotton pads in it and dab it gently on the skin. It will tighten any open pores. It will benefit dry and oily areas on your face.

Moisturising

You have to be picky while buying a moisturiser for your face. You can apply the same moisturiser in winter when even the oily part of the face feels dry.

The trick is to apply the moisturiser to the dry part of the face, and then, apply a small amount of it on the oily area. You can even add a drop of water to your moisturiser before applying it to the T-zone. It will offer lighter coverage and prevent breakouts, pimples and acne.

You can also add lemon juice to honey and apply it to the entire face. Wash it off after 15 minutes.

You can make a moisturiser out of a teaspoon of pure glycerin and 50 ml of rose water. Store it in a jar and apply a little of this lotion on the entire face. Honey and pure glycerin are humectants. They attract moisture from the environment to the skin.

As part of night care, the dry areas may need nourishing more than oily parts of the face, especially in winter. Apply a nourishing cream and massage it for two minutes only on the dry areas. Then wipe off with moist cotton wool.

Masking

A fruit mask would suit both, oily and dry areas and can be used more often. You can pamper your skin with it twice a week. Mash a banana, grate an apple, take a tablespoon of papaya pulp and mix everything together.

Apply it to your face and wash it off after 15 minutes. You can also add crushed oats, ground almonds, honey and curd to make the mask more nourishing and thick so that you do not soil your clothes.

This mask will suit both dry and oily areas. You can reduce the quantity of curd if you are adding an egg. Apply to the face but avoid it on the lips and around the eyes. Wash it off after half an hour.

Disclaimer: Do a patch test on hands with homemade masks, moisturisers, scrubs and toners before applying them to your face.
