MUMBAI: India’s #MeToo movement has finally gained momentum. It all started with Tanushree Dutta accusing Nana Patekar of assaulting her on the sets of the 2008 film Horn OK Pleassss. She said the ordeal affected her emotionally as well as professionally. Tanushree received support from a lot of people from the industry. Soon, many other women started coming out in open to share their stories. Their stories named a few renowned celebrities.
Here are eight big names accused of sexual harassment.
Alok Nath
Writer–producer–director Vinta Nanda accused Alok Nath of sexual assault and rape. She said that Alok Nath raped her after a party held at his house. She also said that he made sure that her career was over.
Kailash Kher
Kailash Kher has been accused of behaving inappropriately with two female journalists. The journalists said that the singer tried to get close to them and kept his hand on their thighs post an interview.
Vikas Bahl
Vikas Bahl has been accused by actresses Nayani Dixit and Kangana Ranaut and an unnamed woman. Nayani said that Bahl told her to share a room with him, while Kangana said that he made her feel uncomfortable by hugging her tight and smelling her hair. An unnamed producer said that Vikas forced himself into her room after a party, groped her, and even masturbated on her.
Rajat Kapoor
A woman journalist and another lady have accused Rajat Kapoor of harassing them verbally. The actor–producer has apologized for his actions on social media platform Twitter.
Nana Patekar
It’s the case of Nana Patekar that sparked off the #MeToo movement in India. Tanushree Dutta accused him of molestation and misbehavior on the sets of the film Horn OK Pleassss.
Utsav Chakraborty
Many women have said that comedian Utsav Chakraborty sent them sexually explicit photos. It was revealed that even Tanmay Bhat, who is the co-founder of AIB, was aware of the incident. Later, AIB apologized for the same.
Chetan Bhagat
Author Chetan Bhagat has been accused of behaving inappropriately with women journalists. A journalist shared a screenshot where the author can be seen trying to woo her for an extramarital affair. Chetan apologized to the woman and his wife on Twitter.
Vivek Agnihotri
Tanushree Dutta has accused Vivek Agnihotri of sexually harassing her during the filming of Chocolate in 2005. She said that he made her uncomfortable during the shooting of the film. She also said that Vivek told her, ‘Kapde utar kar nacho’ (Take off your clothes and dance).
