The gulaal effect: 5 times colours played Cupid in Bollywood!

The gulaal effect: 5 times colours played Cupid in Bollywood!

Movie-makers have a colourful ace up their sleeves, the gulaal. The rich red hue of Holi, when mixed with the passion of the hero/heroine or both, bring forth the most crucial twist in the reel tale...yes, for decades, Holi colours have played Cupid in Bollywood films, and how! We trace our favourites...take a look:

Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela:

The first time Ram and Leela aka Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone lock eyes and erm...lips is during Holi. He's enchanted by her vibrance and beauty and it's pretty much love at first sight for Ram. But when Leela playfully applies gulaal on him and kisses him in front of everybody, he falls head-over-in-heels in love with her. It's also perhaps the only time the two star-crossed lovers have colours in their lives...

Tevar:

The action-flick has every ingredient of a Bollywood masala flick, including the mandatory gulaal scene. When Arjun Kapoor applies the red tinge on Sonakshi, she realises how much she loves him. The Holi festivities also play a crucial role in the build-up of their love story. Even though you know it's coming, you enjoy watching every minute of it.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi:

Shah Rukh Khan and his Tanni ji aka Anushka Sharma have no romantic connection till the burst of Holi colours are splashed around. SRK's Sahni is madly in love with Anushka's Tanni, but she doesn't reciprocate. The only glimmer of hope SRK gets is when she applies a bit of gulaal on his cheeks. Well, it clearly tells us and Sahni that there's hope.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani:

Till the foursome of Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapoor, break out into Balam Pichkari, nobody has seen Naina alias Deepika's wild side. The mix of bhaang and Holi rang makes her the toast of the celebrations. It's also when she falls in love with the goofy, yet adorable Bunny alias Ranbir.

Deewana:

Another movie that made perfect use of the festival of colours was SRK-Divya Bharthi's Deewana. During the joyous occasion of Holi, Shah Rukh not only declares his love for the widowed Divya, but also sprays her white sari with gulaal to make her understand the extent of his passion. It sure helped him win the damsel over...
