Funny man Deven Verma died of a heart attack on Tuesday morning in a Pune hospital. The character artist is survived by his wife Rupa Ganguly. He was 78. As we mourn the loss of the legend, we take a look at five of his top roles in Bollywood. Read on:
Angoor:
In this Shakespearean drama, Verma had a double role, just like his co-star Sanjeev Kumar. He aced the roles with ease. In fact, his gifted coming timing was at its peak in this epic cult classic.
Andaz Apna Apna:
He might not have been as young as his Angoor days, but he still managed to pack quite a punch in this epic comedy. Even 25 years after its release, the movie still manages to be laugh-worthy, thanks to Verma's timing.
Chor Ke Ghar Chor:
In his award-winning role, Verma proved that he was an able comedian. He was paired opposite Preeti Ganguly whose younger sister Rupa is married to Deven in real life!
Besharam:
He had a triple role as Lakshman, his father and mother, in this 1978 classic. The actor not only acted in it, but also directed it. It was a hit at the box office, beautifully showcasing Verma's talent.
Dil:
It may have been an out and out romantic flick, but Deven's role was significant as the movie's only comic relief. He played it part with ease and even managed to overshadow Aamir Khan and Madhuri Dixit in a couple of scenes!
May his soul is rest in peace.
