MUMBAI: Tipppsy film actor Harjinder Singh who was also a part of the series Inspector Avinash, says if a negative character is getting hate from the audience, it means they are playing their character well. However, he stressed that they should realise that it’s just a character.

“The negative character is simply hated. But if it is hated, it means that the character is being played well and that people have started hating you. But at the end of the day, people should understand that it is a character. I'm not that in real life. That was a demand of a script, a character's demand, which I had to do well,” he said.

And he agrees that a negative character gets to showcase a lot of emotions. He said, “Yes, a negative character has a lot to play with. But some characters go from positive to negative, and a few negative ones turn positive. There are a wide range of emotions that you can expect to play.”

For Harjinder, it doesn’t matter whether a dialogue is long or short, he said, “It doesn't make much difference. If you understand the emotions of your character in a scene, then the difference doesn't matter much. Your understanding will show that you understand the situation by looking at the person in front of you. That understanding is more important.”

“A long dialogue doesn't make much difference when you know the issue you are talking about, what the situation is, whom you are talking to, and where you are talking, so you keep it in mind. ‘Okay, we'll keep it going’. However, in long dialogues, sometimes when there are retakes, somewhere you also get a little tired, you also loosen up a bit, and emotions tend to lose their charm. You catch it in various ways later,” he added.

As an actor, Harjinder believes that doing a physically challenging scene is easy because it can be perfected with practice. He added, “Emotional scenes are a bit difficult. Holding on to emotions is a bit difficult. That's because you have to understand the emotions, understand the character, and then those scenes will happen. Action scenes; practice it 10 times, and it will happen. But emotional scenes are a bit difficult.”

He also stressed that a character’s evolution is also very important because it makes the story relatable. “Relatibility makes it a bit engaging, and a bit engaging also adds depth and complexity. And the audience that is there also invests a bit in its character journey. And it makes the narrative more realistic,” he ended.
