Comparisons with Aditya Roy Kapur will inevitably happen - Sachiin Joshi

Sachiin Joshi
On 15 August, Sachiin Joshi will return to Telugu cinema, the place where he began his film career from with Nee Jathaga Nenundali, an official remake of 2013's sleeper hit, Aashiqui 2. Tellychakkar.com caught up with this actor, entrepreneur and sports enthusiast to know more about his new Telugu film venture. How did you come up with the idea of remaking Aashiqui 2? My producer friend Bandla Ganesh initiated the entire thing. I just met him casually and he mooted the idea of doing this. I told him do something that has never been done in Telugu before. And he said that intense love stories like Laila Majnu are not being made in Telugu. I said Aashiqui 2 in Bollywood is a good example and that is how the entire idea sprang up of remaking it in Telugu. Aren't you scared that comparisons would be drawn between you and Aditya Roy Kapur? Not scared but yes there is definitely a huge pressure because comparison is inevitable and people will compare every minutest detail of Aashiqui 2 with my film. But what we don't realise that 160 South Indian films have been remade in Hindi then why can't a Hindi movie be remade in South India. Some work while others don't. We have worked hard and invested a lot of effort in this movie. Have you exchanged notes with Aditya on the matter? I have known Aditya even before he started shooting for Aashiqui 2. When he first learnt about it he was shocked because he couldn't believe that a Hindi film is being remade in Telugu because usually it is the other way round. All he told me was to stay natural and be myself in the movie for the character. What was your biggest challenge while essaying this role? My biggest challenge was to adapt as a person into that character. Telugu sensitivity is very important. South Indian cinema is much louder as compared to Bollywood in terms of expression emotion and everything. so I had to play myself in that character. Music played a big role in Aashiqui 2's success. How has the response been in South? The music has been accepted well. The tune remains the same only the lyrics are different and audience are loving it. Aashiqui 2 and its music were consumed by 10% of audience in South. So people are loving the Telugu version. Will we see your wife Raina coming back into films? I am open to the idea but right now mothering our baby. If she loves to make a comeback I will be more than happy. You are not producing Nee Jathaga Nenundali. Was that a conscious decision? Yes. I have got out of that zone. Now I will produce only those films I am not acting in.
