MUMBAI: Alka Yagnik is regarded as one of the best female vocalists in Indian music history, having recorded over 20,000 songs in 25 languages and taking home seven Filmfare Awards for Best Playback Singer. Throughout her remarkable career as a playback vocalist, Alka Yagnik performed a number of songs that are still very dear to people's hearts.
Alka Yagnik's most well-known songs include Taal Se Taal, Ek Do Teen, Meri Mehbooba, and Choli Ke Peeche. Hum Tum, Ghoongat Ki Aad Se, Dil Ne Yeh Kaha Hai Dil Se, O Re Chhori, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, San San Sana, Agar Tum Saath Ho, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, among others.
For those who don't know, Shubha Yagnik, Alka's mother, was a trained Indian classical singer. Shubha realized her daughter Alka may be the next great generation leader at a young age. As a result, the devoted mother began training her, and when Alka was six years old, she began performing bhajans and devotional songs for Akashvani (All India Radio). With the song "Threkat Ang" from the movie Payal Ki Jhankaar, Alka Yagnik launched her professional singing career at the tender age of 14.
Alka is a reserved person and likes to keep her personal life private. She is married to Neeraj Kapoor, and they have a daughter named Syesha Kapoor. Alka and Neeraj's daughter, Syesha is married to Amit Desai.
The first time Alka and Neeraj saw each other was on a train ride. They kept in touch and became friends after meeting for the first time on the train. After six months of companionship, although having quite different occupations, Alka and Neeraj continued to arrange get-togethers and began to resemble one another.
In 1989, following more than two years of dating, Alka Yagnik and Neeraj Kapoor tied the knot. They didn't have an easy time of it either, as the singer had received a warning from her parents. For the unaware, Alka Yagnik's parents encouraged her not to marry Neeraj Kapoor, a businessman located in Shilong, when she told them about him.
Alka was informed by her parents that their long-distance relationship would cause significant issues in their wedded life. But Neeraj was going to move his headquarters to Mumbai so he could move in with her when they were married, which gave Alka confidence.
Speaking of her husband, Alka once said, “Neeraj even tried to launch a business in Mumbai. But he is this simple small-town guy and he got cheated of a huge sum of money. So I told him that he should go back to Shillong and not let his business there get affected.”
Neeraj even attempted to open a company in Mumbai. However, this unassuming man from a tiny town was defrauded of a substantial amount of money. I advised him to return to Shillong and not allow anything to interfere with his business there.

Following a protracted period of non-communication, Alka and Neeraj came to the realization that they were dependent on one another. Neeraj stayed to live in Shillong, while Alka chose to remain in Mumbai after realizing their unadulterated love for one another. For the past 28 years, the pair has maintained a long-distance marriage.
