MUMBAI: One of the most iconic faces of Indian cinema during the 80s and 90s, Meenakshi Seshadri, is officially back where she belongs – in front of the camera. Having taken a long hiatus and lived overseas for several years, the celebrated actress is now set to resume her journey in the world of entertainment.

In an exclusive chat with TellyChakkar, the Damini star opens up about her return, her emotional connection with the audiences, and who she believes can reprise her iconic role  if anyone at all.

Welcome back, Meenakshi! How does it feel to return to the entertainment industry after such a long gap?

It feels absolutely wonderful. After being away from India for many years, it’s heartening to return and re-engage with the craft that I love so dearly. The industry has evolved in so many ways, and I’m excited to be a part of this new era. There's a renewed energy within me and I'm all set to begin this beautiful second innings.

Your portrayal of Damini remains unforgettable to this day. How does it feel knowing audiences still connect with that role so deeply?

As an actor, to be remembered for a particular role is truly special – it means the work you’ve done has made a lasting impression. Damini wasn’t just a character, it was a voice, a powerful message. The fact that people still associate me with her even after decades is both humbling and fulfilling.

If a remake of Damini were to be made today, who do you believe could do justice to the role?

Honestly, I would say – me! Laughs Thanks to today’s technology and AI advancements, age really is just a number. With the right visual tools and storytelling, I believe I could reprise Damini once more. There’s a unique connection I have with that character, and I still feel I can bring her to life like no one else.

Meenakshi Seshadri’s return marks a nostalgic yet refreshing moment for Indian cinema. As fans eagerly await her next move, there’s little doubt that her timeless charm and on-screen power will once again captivate audiences across generations.
