Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan greet Rekha at Screen Awards
The unthinkable happened at Life OK Screen Awards yesterday night. Amitabh Bachchan greeted Rekha with a reverent namaste and a gentlemanly smile. And the ageless diva who was attired in her trademark saree, blushed and reciprocated in kind. This is first time Amitabh Bachchan has acknowledged Rekha’s presence in public. After maintaining a poker face at every award function where they inevitably bump into each other, Amitabh decided to do away with the cold shoulder policy this time round. The hit on-screen pair had last worked together in Silsila which was way back in 1981. Ever since then Amitabh has steadfastly maintained his distance from Rekha in the public realm. But with yesterday’s meet and greet one can perhaps assume that things are returning to normalcy in the Amitabh –Rekha saga. And it was not just Amitabh who greeted Rekha. Even wife Jaya shook hands with her once-upon-a-time rival and stuck an instant camaraderie with her. There was no attempt made at hoodwinking this bonhomie. Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s allegedly affair started when they met on the sets of their movie Do Anjane in 1976. An already married Amitabh’s affair created a lot of trouble in his marital life with Jaya reportedly telling Rekha then that she would never leave her husband. Nevertheless, the romance reportedly continued right until Amitabh met with a near-fatal accident on the sets of Coolie. Apparently, Amitabh was told by those close to him that Rekha was allegedly a bad omen in his life and he should therefore end the relationship. Curiously enough, post recovering from the accident, Amitabh also ended his alleged romance with Rekha. But with yesterday’s meet and greet affair, looks like both Rekha and Big B’s family have decided to put their past behind them and end the bitter animosity that existed for more than three decades. Amitabh Bachchan was also conferred with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 20th Annual Life OK Screen Awards.
