MUMBAI: In 2018, Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Stree had hit the big screens. The horror-comedy was loved by one and all, and it was a super hit at the box office. The makers announced that they are making a horror-comedy universe and in 2021, the second movie of it, Roohi was released. Now, in 2022, the third film of the universe, Bhediya has been released. The movie, which stars Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles, is actually a creature-comedy.

Bhediya is about Bhaskar (Varun) who comes to Arunachal Pradesh for a project where he has to make a road that passes through forest. One night a wolf bites Bhaskar and some unusual things start happening with him. The movie moves forward with how Bhaskar and his friends come out of the situation they get stuck into.

The film is written by Niren Bhatt, and he has come up with a good story. It has an important message to give, and of course, Niren and Amar decided to give the message in a comedy and dramatic way.

The first half of the film builds the story, but it could have been more engaging. However, the movie just goes to another level in the pre-interval portion and then in the second half, it will keep you engaged throughout. It's a heavy VFX film, and the makers get full marks for it. Even the 3D effects are great.

Talking about performances, Varun Dhawan is brilliant in the film. He has given his best and in the transformation sequences, he is exceptional. After Mimi, we surely expect amazing performances from Kriti, but in Bhediya, she is hardly there. The makers have totally wasted her. Abhishek Banerjee is amazing, and he will make you laugh out loud in mostly all the scenes he is in. Deepak Dobriyal and Paalin Kabak also leave a mark.

The problem with this whole horror-comedy universe is that their first film was Stree which was an excellent movie. After that, they had Roohi, which was above average and now Bhediya, which is also decent. Stree has left such a strong mark that the other two films have not been able to match that level. But now, all eyes will be on Stree 2.

Overall, Bhediya is a decent watch, but don't expect it to be a fantastic film like Stree. You can surely watch it once!

Ratings: 3/5

P.S.: There's a small surprise for Shehnaaz Gill's fans in the film. No, she doesn't have a cameo, but something will surely remind you of her...
