Bollywood mourns death of legendary cartoonist Pran

Pran Kumar Sharma, the man whose mighty hand created uber popular comic characters like Chacha Chaudhary, Sabu and Pinki, passed away last night. One of India’s best known cartoonist, Pran, 75 was reportedly battling cancer for a brief while and is believed to have finally succumbed to it. The cartoonist will be cremated at 2.30 pm today.


In an era when comic books reigned supreme, Pran and his cartoon characters like Shrimatiji, Pinki, Billoo, Raman and many others kept kids enticed and hooked to reading. However, it is the sketching of cult character, Chacha Chaudhary that earned Pran legendary status. Chacha Chaudhary’s unmatched intellect combined with his trusted lieutenant Sabu’s super human strength made them an instant hit among kids and even adults too who found Chacha’s antics amusing and entertaining to the core.


Bollywood too mourned the loss of Pran and a few took Twitter to express their condolence.
