Haven't we seen instances when an actor saw two of his releases opening on the silver screen on the same day or two films of a director clashing at the box office?
However never before have we seen a filmmaker's production and a directorial venture arriving on the same day.
This was the case when Ramesh Sippy was caught on a precarious situation when his upcoming joint venture with T-Series and Next Gen Films Production Sonali Cable was unknowingly pitted against Sholay 3D to release on the same day on 3 January, 2014.
But an experienced professional that he is, Sippy, in a clever move, has avoided a clash between the two films. The release of Sonali Cable has been moved to April.
Incidentally Sonali Cable starring Rhea Chakraborty and Ali Fazal was supposed to release a few months ago but then was pushed to 3 January. The plans of its release was fixed till very recently the makers of Sholay 3D (PEN India Pvt Ltd.) also announcing their film’s arrival on the same day. All this gave rise to Sippy’s clever maneuvering.
Set in the cable internet turf war of Mumbai, Sonali Cable is the story of a ghetto girl and her internet boys who take on a greedy conglomerate that’s out to decimate their spirit of enterprise. The intent of the film is to establish the growing trend of the corporate sector trying to crush small businesses without any scope for co-existence.
