
MUMBAI: The producers of the film 1080: The Legacy of Mahaveer have been summoned by the Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission (MSHRC) in response to allegations made by Jains that the film violates their religious sensibilities. The producers of the movie have been asked to appear at a hearing at the commission's Mumbai office today.

The commission issued a summons notice on October 25. It states, “You are further directed to submit your response in writing with relevant documents upon which you intend to rely in response of your defence.”
The film is based on the lives of their Tirthankars, or teachers, has been met with opposition from Jains in Mumbai. The community has taken a specific complaint with the movie's physical portrayal of Mahavir, the founder of the religion.
The Hindi-language feature film was supposed to open in Mumbai theaters today. Earlier this month, the movie's trailer was made available on YouTube. A Jain delegation met with officials of the Ministry of Information in addition to filing a complaint with the MSHRC. Advocate Kanlesh Shah, of Delhi, stated that the delegates who met the minister for information and broadcasting were told that the film would not be released without a community screening and review by members of the community.
The film 1080: The Legacy of Mahaveer will hit theatres on October 27, 2023. Manish Bishla, Swayam Joshi, Anil Lalwani, and Surendra Pal played the main roles in Pradeep P. Jadhav's film. Shubham Vyas is another well-known actor in 1080: The Legacy of Mahaveer.
