If Yash Raj Films (YRF) takes a lead, can Eros International stay behind? Seeing YRF successfully releasing its Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif-starrer Ek Tha Tiger in Japan on 8 March with much fanfare, Eros International Media Ltd. The release of the Farah Khan-directed Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone-starrer has been planned across an unprecedented 15 screens, one of the biggest ever for an Indian film in Japan. Commenting on the announcement, Kumar Ahuja, Senior VP, Business Development, Eros International said: “Shah Rukh Khan enjoys cult fan following overseas, including in Japan and the fabulous showcasing planned for the film there reasserts his global appeal. We are constantly looking at opening new markets for Bollywood films worldwide, and are confident that Om Shanti Om will be very well received on its release in Japan.” Subtitled in Japanese, the film has been named Koi Suru Rinne Om Shanti Om. As a matter of interest that in Japanese Koi Suru stands for to fall in love and the meaning of Rinne is reincarnation. However with the announcement , the lady is very excited and has decided to be present at the premiere show. “I’m very happy with Eros taking Om Shanti Om to another level and achieve such a fabulous showcasing for the film in Japan, even after six years of its release. It feels fantastic that there is still such keenness to watch the film and that it continues to entertain audiences across the world,” she said in a statement. Om Shanti Om, a romantic comedy film, also stars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles while Arjun Rampal, Shreyas Talpade and Kirron Kher feature in supporting roles. The film, set in the 1970s and 2000s, pays tribute to the Indian film industry of both these eras.
