MUMBAI: Ashwini Kalsekar in this exclusive interview with TellyChakkar talks about her journey in Bollywood. The actress speaks about doing different types of roles and critiquing her own work.
On doing different types of roles
I never made any barriers around me. I would like to bow down in front of Rohit Shetty Sir because he gave me a chance where the audience came to know that I can do comedy also. He is the first one to give me a chance in comedy. I think it's the director's vision completely. Like when I went to meet Ram Gopal Varma Sir, he told me you will act in Phoonk. Before that, he has not even seen me acting on television. In the same year, both the films had released, Golmaal and Phoonk. I was nominated for both films. I would also like to thank Ekta Kapoor because before meeting her, I was only doing positive and emotional roles. But she trusted me, and then I went on to do all the negative roles. So I believe that it is the director’s vision that gives you work. So whatever I have learned is from relevision. Right or wrong, I believe that television is my guru who taught me everything about acting.
On critiquing her own work
To be very honest, I am very afraid to see my own work. Because whenever I see my work, I feel like if I had done the role in the other way, it would have come out better. My husband Murli Sharma is also an actor. So we discuss our work without interfering in each other's work. We definitely talk about if how we could have been better. That’s why I always feel that I could have done better in my scenes. I keep learning from my previous experience. So going back to your question, I don’t like my work very much. I need improvement in all the work I have done in the past.
