MUMBAI: After a long and successful career in the film industry, Jaya Bachchan is now a Rajya Sabha MP and is recognised for her strong opinions on a multitude of topics. She had previously expressed her disappointment with superstar Rajesh Khanna without hesitation. Whenever she recollects an incident on the set of the 1972 film Bawarchi, she cannot help but laugh.

When Rajesh Khanna spotted Jaya Bachchan on the set of Bawarchi spending some time with Amitabh Bachchan, he told her not to waste her time with the actor. According to reports, Kaka said Amitabh Bachchan had no future in the film industry. After hearing the superstar's remarks, Jaya was taken aback and enraged. She responded by suggesting that the guy he is yelling at will one day run the industry.
During those days, Amitabh Bachchan worked as a voice-over artist, reading the titles and credits in films. Rajesh Khanna was Bollywood's superstar, and he was ruling the box office with blockbuster smashes one after another. Other actors, especially rookies, had little chance against him.

Meanwhile, Jaya Bachchan's prediction on the set of Bawarchi came true, and Amitabh Bachchan ruled the industry for the next few years. This was just one instance where both the stars, Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna, had some differences. But, later both of them delivered two hits, Anand (1971) and Namak Haram (1973).
