MUMBAI : The most famous names in Hindi cinema from the last three decades will be Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Aamir Khan. The only other name who can join or compete with this is none other than Salman Khan. While Shah Rukh and Aamir are holding many records with their names, there is one record of Salman Khan which they found difficult to beat.
Sooraj Barjatya's debut as a director is Maine Pyar Kiya. The film’s female lead role Bhagyashree was outstanding at the age of 18 whereas the male lead Salman Khan was just 24 as the first lead actor. The film was a huge success. As per the reports, Maine Pyar Kiya was the biggest hit of 1989 and one of the highest-grossing films ever. Maine Pyar Kiya had 4.8 crore footfalls in India, which is one of the highest ever. Shah Rukh’s Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge had 4.75 crore footfalls, Aamir’s Raja Hindustani had 4.1 crore, and Akshay’s 2.0 had 3.6 crore. Impressively enough, the Khan also had one more movie with even higher footfalls that is Hum Aapke Hain Kaun with 7.4 crore.
Salman’s first movie as a lead actor Maine Pyar Kiya was a love story inspired by the famous romance Romeo and Juliet. The movie had casted two newcomers and also some supporting actors and was made on a modest budget of just Rs 1 crore. Where the movie earns 15 crore in India and 28 crore worldwide. The movie had beat the record of Ram Lakhan and also of Chandni to be the highest grossing film of the year.
