In an unprecedented move, the Film & TV Producers Guild of India has appointed film and television producer, lyricist, actor and writer Amit Khanna as a permanent member of its council. With this appointment, Khanna has become only the third film personality to be appointed a permanent member of the Guild after V Shantaram and Raj Kapoor. Also a noted lyricist, Khanna was awarded the National Film Award for best lyrics for the song Kuch Is Tarah from the film Bhairavi in 1995. In another development, Mukesh Bhatt was unanimously re-elected as president of the Guild. Other office bearers of the Guild are Dheeraj Kumar, Ashutosh Gowariker, Vipul Shah, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Ratan Jain, Vijay Singh, N P Singh, Manish Goswami and Ashim Samanta. Established way back in 1954 by the stalwarts of the Indian film industry including B N Sircar, S Mukherjee, the Guild is today the most progressive body in show business.
