Filmmakers in Nepal delay the release of their films fearing Dhoom 3 backlash

Dhoom 3
Looks like there is no barrier left to contain the ever growing popularity of YRF’s latest venture Dhoom 3 that is smashing every record possible all around the globe wherever released. Yesterday we had reported that the Aamir Khan film has smashed all previous records of garnering the highest ever collection at the box office on the first day of its release. Now some news from neighbouring country of ours-Nepal. The film is going so strong at the box office in the country that the local filmmakers have had to delay the release of their own films for the next three weeks fearing tough competition. "We do not have Nepali movies to release now and for another two weeks, though five to six Nepali movies were ready to release," said Rajkumar Rai, chairman of Nepal Film Producers Association. Many producers are not keen to release their films due to the overwhelming response to Dhoom 3, Rai added. Made on a budget of approximately Rs 100 crore, the film also starring Katrina Kaif, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra hit as many as 4,000 screens across the globe. In comparison to the over $2 billion Indian film industry, the filmdom in Nepal is very small and the maximum budget of a film doesn't exceed NRs.3 million (approximately $30,000) to NRs 4 million ($40,000). Dhoom 3, the sleek thrilling saga, directed by Vijay Krishan Acharya, is successfully running in approximately 120 multiplexes and theatres in Nepal, and it is expected to pull crowds for another three weeks. “I must admit that the big budget Indian movies have a severe impact on our industry and Dhoom 3 has repeated the history,” Rai further added. The film has been released in Nepal by Gopi Krishna Movies that brought Dhoom 3 to Nepal after paying NRs.32 million.
