Filmmakers who make movies like Peepli Live have no passion for the country - Arnab Goswami

Arnab Goswami at FICCI FRAMES 2014
FICCI FRAMES 2014, saw a charged up Arnab Goswami in action today. And at the receiving end were filmmakers who trivialise journalism and cock a snook at journalists through their movies. Calling them passionless, Arnab singled out Aamir Khan's Peepli Live for some much needed Arnab bashing. "A film like Peepli Live caricatures journalists. How can you trivalise a situation when a journalist is passionately covering something. The makers of such movies have no passion for our country," roared Arnab. The prime time news anchor was talking about the change in the style of storytelling in electronic news media today when he took a swipe at Peepli Live for mocking Arnab's ilk. "Even a child falling into a ditch is a story," said Arnab and remembered how in 1996, he had refused to cover the story of a school boy falling in a gutter and how life came a full circle when in 2006, the continued coverage of a boy named Prince who had fallen into a ditch, changed the fortunes of Times Now. In his keynote address to the audience, Arnab touched up five key points: First- Stay at an arm's length distance from politicians Second- Politicians will be touchy to criticism. Take them down. Don't be touchy about taking them down. Third- Don't be without an opinion. Always have an opinion without prejudice. Fourth- There is a significant change in story telling style in electronic news media. Have your own style. Fifth- news is a form of social contact and the period between 2014 to 2025 is going to be the most exciting period. Well, it looks like apart from the censors, filmmakers will now have to be wary of Arnab Goswami as well.
