Willem Dafoe to star in 'Togo'
Actor Willem Dafoe will star in Disney's Togo live-action movie about two of the key figures in the 1925 Nome Serum Run -- sled dog Togo and sled driver Leonhard Seppala.
The banner is developing Togo for its streaming service, which will launch late next year. Ericson Core, whose credits include Invincible and the remake of Point Break, is directing the project, according to some media reports.
Nome in Alaska became famous in 1925 as the destination of the Serum Run, also known as the Great Race of Mercy, in which dog sleds played a major role in transporting diphtheria serum through harsh conditions over nearly 700 miles to save the city from an epidemic.
Gunnar Kaasen and his lead sled dog Balto became known for running the final leg of the run while the 12-year-old lead dog Togo and Seppala ran the penultimate and longest leg in temperatures that were 30 degrees below zero.
‘Roseanne’ scores two Emmy nominations despite a row
Roseanne, the comedy series which was cancelled in May after star Roseanne Barr's racist Twitter comments, has earned a pair of nominations at the 70th Emmy Awards. Laurie Metcalf was the sole cast member to be nominated for her role as Roseanne's sister, Jackie Harris, according to leading portal.
She will compete against Zazie Beetz (“Atlanta”), Alex Borstein ("The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel"), Aidy Bryant ("Saturday Night Live"), Betty Gilpin ("Glow"), Leslie Jones ("Saturday Night Live"), Kate McKinnon ("Saturday Night Live"), and Megan Mullally ("Will and Grace").
The show was also nominated for outstanding multi-camera editing for a comedy series for the episode titled "Darlene V. David."
ABC network had explained its decision to cancel the series, which had been the popular new show of the television season, saying Barr's comments were "abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values".
The cancellation of Roseanne came just hours after Barr attacked Valerie Jarrett, Chelsea Clinton and George Soros in a series of tweets.

Yvonne Strahovski happy about Emmy nominations
Actress Yvonne Strahovski is happy about scoring an Emmy nomination for her role as Serena Joy Waterford in The Handmaid's Tale, and says she hasn't stopped smiling since then. The Television Academy announced the nominations on Thursday. Strahovski is nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category.
Strahovski will compete for the Emmy against two The Handmaid's Tale co-stars Alexis Bledel and Ann Dowd, as well as Lena Headey ("Game of Thrones"), Millie Bobby Brown ("Stranger Things"), Thandie Newton ("Westworld") and Vanessa Kirby ("The Crown").
In an interview to a leading magazine, Strahovski expressed her excitement, according to sources. "I can't stop smiling, my face hurts … I'm so happy to have been part of this, and so grateful that the ride has really allowed me the opportunity to dive deep into Serena's psyche this season, and really get down and dirty with her and her vulnerability," she said.
Danai Gurria in talks to star in 'Godzilla vs. Kong'
The Walking Dead fame actress Danai Gurria is in talks to star in monster film Godzilla vs. Kong. According to a publication, not much has been revealed about Gurria's character, but she will play one of the film's leading roles.
Godzilla vs. Kong will be the latest addition to the Godzilla franchise and will be a crossover event putting together two of the most popular movie monsters of all time. The film will also follow Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island and the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Gurria, who is also known for her role as Okoye in Black Panther will share screen in the film with Deadpool 2 actress Julian Dennison.
Being directed by Adam Wingard, the film is slated to release on 22 May, 2020.
Bieber, Baldwin take helicopter to meet her family
Singer Justin Bieber and fiance Hailey Baldwin took helicopter to meet up with her family just a few miles away.
Bieber and Baldwin loaded into their very own private helicopter on Wednesday for the 70-mile trek to upstate New York to reach New Windsor, a town with a population of about 25,000, where Baldwin's father Stephen and family stay.
According to tmz.com, Bieber approached Stephen a few weeks back to ask for her daughter's hand in marriage before he got down on one knee in the Bahamas and popped the question.
Game of Thrones, Netflix lead 70th Emmy Awards nominations
Fantasy drama Game of Thrones has earned 22 nominations for the 70th Emmy Awards, where HBO's 17-year streak as the most nominated network has been broken by Netflix. Sandra Oh became the first Asian actress nominated for lead in a drama series, and celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain was nominated posthumously for Parts Unknown. The Television Academy had Samira Wiley and Ryan Eggold present the nominations here on Thursday morning.
For the Game of Thrones, the announcement was special given that in 2017, the HBO entertainer was ineligible to compete for the Emmys due to its seventh season's later-than-usual summer debut. Now it has scored the most nominations for any single show at the 2018 Emmys.
However, HBO does not lead all nominees as Netflix beat its 108 score with 112 nominations, according to some media reports.
Parts Unknown, by Bourdain, whose death last month left the industry in disbelief, notched a total of six nominations for 2018, five of them in Creative Arts Emmy categories.
Game of Thrones, Westworld and Saturday Night Live are the most nominated shows with a mention in 21 categories each.
The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story drew the most nominations for a limited series with 18 nods, while Atlanta was the most nominated comedy series at 16.
Nominees in the Drama Series category include: The Handmaida¿s Tale, Game of Thrones, This Is Us, The Crown, The Americans, Stranger Things and Westworld.
Colin Jost and Michael Che will host the 70th Annual Primetime Emmys, to be held at the Microsoft Theater here on 17 September. It will be aired in India on Star World and Star World HD.
Kylie Jenner on cover of Forbes's 'richest self-made women' issue
Television personality, model and entrepreneur Kylie Jenner is on the cover of Forbes' "Richest Self-Made Women" issue. Ever since Jenner founded Kylie Cosmetics in February 2016, her company has earned a revenue of $630 million. The 20-year-old has managed to build a $900 million fortune, reports eonline.com
This is the first time Jenner has been included in the Forbes' list since it was first published in 2014.
"The most successful women entrepreneurs are increasingly taking advantage of technology, including social media, to help them launch and grow businesses," said Luisa Kroll, assistant managing editor of Forbes.
In an interview with Forbes, Jenner said that she has always been allured by cosmetics, even though she struggled to find something to do on her own.
"Ever since I was in sixth grade, I would wear purple eyeshadow. I turned to make-up to help me feel more confident," she said.
Jenner also makes money from endorsements and is the youngest woman to be featured in the issue. She is also said to be the seventh most followed celebrity on Instagram.

Scarlett Johansson’s ‘Black Widow’ gets a director
The Berlin Syndrome director Cate Shortland has been tapped to direct Marvel’s Black Widow standalone movie, which stars Scarlett Johansson. The news was confirmed by several sources. The film has been in development for a while but picked up momentum in January when Jac Schaeffer was tapped to pen the script. Kevin Feige is producing the project. Marvel has not made any official announcement about it yet. The studio met with more than 70 filmmakers for the job before landing on Shortland, who sources say was an early favourite after a promising meeting with Johansson.
Dwayne Johnson on dropping 'The Rock' nickname
Dwayne Johnson has revealed that after reaching the heights of fame as WWE wrestler 'The Rock', he was asked to drop the nickname. The 46-year-old actor said that he was pressurized to drop his wrestling persona to further his acting career. "I was told at that time, 'Listen, you can't talk about wrestling. You can't go by 'The Rock'. You can't be as big,'" Johnson said. Dwayne also said that he was being someone else and his fans also urged him to drop the name.
