Gulabo Sitabo NOT to release in theatres; here’s how Ayushmann Khurrana reacted

Gulabo Sitabo will not be releasing in theatres.

MUMBAI: According to the latest media reports, the much-awaited film Gulabo Sitabo will not release in theatres. It will be releasing on an OTT platform.

The producers have sent it to Amazon Prime. It looks like the decision to release Gulabo Sitabo straight on OTT was fully the producers' call while perhaps Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana had a different viewpoint! Given the coronavirus pandemic ravaging in our country, many producers are protecting their bottomline of business by looking at alternate options to release their films. Given that there is no clarity on when theatres would open in India and there is no clarity on when people would actually go back to theatres to watch films, the makers took a business decision to release Gulabo Sitabo on digital.

“Producer Ronnie Lahiri and director Shoojit Sircar decided to go digital for the release of Gulabo Sitabo and took the final call on the same. The actors were brought into the discussion, citing business decisions that needed to be made due to coronavirus. However, it wasn’t a unanimous decision. We have heard that the actors wanted a big screen release for their labour of love. Every actor wants to see his or her film being played in theatres but the dynamics are perhaps strongly changing. Ayushmann definitely had a different opinion,” a source from a corporate informed SpotboyE.com.

The source added, “The film features two of the most prominent names of Indian cinema – Amitabh and Ayushmann. So, everyone expected it to be a big screen release. But these are difficult times and businesses are simply protecting themselves. The makers were offered a sum of money that they couldn’t resist. It’s a big price for an essentially multiplex film and they have got this price because it has Amitabh and Ayushmann. No actor can have a say in the internal business decisions of a company even if they feel differently about the final call and that’s what has happened here.”
