MUMBAI: National Award-winning filmmaker Bhavna Talwar is all set to helm the biopic of the legendary filmmaker and actor Guru Dutt. The film will be titled ‘Pyaasa’, taking inspiration from Guru Dutt’s 1957 classic.
In July 2020, Bhavna took to her Twitter handle and confirmed the same. Sharing it with her fans, she wrote, “Now that the cat’s out of the bag! Can’t wait to get down to this one after 7 years of toil and immeasurable joy.”

The film will showcase Guru Dutt's journey from a telephone operator to a filmmaker. The film will also delve into details about the legendary filmmaker going through depression, while having achieved success as a filmmaker and also enjoying a happily married life with Geeta Dutt. A source who has read the script told us, “While doing her research, Bhavna spoke to a few people who worked with him and found out that he was not unhappy with his professional or personal life. While there have been speculations for years that he committed suicide (ended his life) because of his love for Waheeda Rehman, but it is not the truth. According to an actor who worked in Guru Dutt’s films, he had moved on in life and was not in an unhappy space at all. In all probability, he was severely depressed and because in those times, these things were not spoken a lot or understood by common people, no one, not even Dutt himself came to terms with the fact that he was depressed. His severe depression made him choose such a harsh step that resulted in a tragic end to a legend’s life.”
