MUMBAI : On 8 July yesteryear’s actor and comedian Jagdeep, best known for his role in Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra starrer Sholay as Soorma Bhopali, passed away in Mumbai. He was 81. Jagdeep was reportedly suffering from a prolonged illness and he breathed his last, at around 8:30 PM. Father to Jaaved Jaaferi and grandfather to Meezaan, Jagdeep started his film career in 1951 as a child artist in BR. Chopra’s film Afsana. In his 70-year career span, he has featured in over 400 films. Jagdeep’s birth name is Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri.

A while back, Meezaan took to social media to pay his heartfelt tribute to his famous grandfather. Sharing a picture from his childhood, Meezaan is heartbroken. In this photo, Meezaan is seen planting a kiss of love on his grandfather’s cheek. Meezaan posted a sad smiley and a heart emoji in the caption. But it is Meezaan’s rumoured girlfriend Navya Naveli’s comment on this heartbreaking post that caught our eyes. In this difficult time, Navya has sent love and strength to Meezaan and his family. Meezaan made his Bollywood debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali production Maalal.
After learning about his Sholay co-star’s death, Amitabh Bachchan took to social media and paid a heartfelt tribute to the legend in his blog. He wrote, “Last night we lost another gem .. Jagdeep .. the actor of exceptional comedic repertoire, passed away ..He had crafted a unique individual style of his own .. and I had the honour of working with him in several films .. the more prominent ones in the eyes of the audience being Sholay and Shahenshah..”
