MUMBAI : Over the years, Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla have remained close friends and have helped each other through numerous difficulties. Shah Rukh was there for Juhi when her mother tragically passed away. Juhi called this period "horrific" in a previous interview, but she gave Shah Rukh credit for making sure she was never alone and for cheering her up.

Juhi said in an interview with Rajeev Masand that Shah Rukh, along with her husband Jay Mehta was a constant amid her difficult situations. When they were filming 'Duplicate'  in Prague, her mother passed away. Juhi recalled being completely overtaken with grief and turning to her work as a coping mechanism.

“Shah Rukh was with me when we were there. And I remember just being totally devastated. And to try and forget about it, I would just jump into work so that… And Shah Rukh would try and make us all laugh, like he always does, he does it to everybody and he would just make sure that I was around and he’d keep it all happy and stuff and that’s how I got by,” she shared.

In another interview, Juhi revealed that Shah Rukh understood the pain of losing a parent, having experienced it himself. She told  the popular news portal, “He was the one who consoled me. He knew the pain of losing a parent and tried to make me laugh and forget the sorrow.”

Following a period of mourning, Juhi returned to work, and she starred with Shah Rukh in her following two films, 'Duplicate' and 'Yes Boss.' She enjoyed spending time with him on set and found solace and diversion in his company during that difficult period.

Juhi further mentioned that the terrible event happened the day after they reached Prague. For Karan Johar's birthday, she and her mother had purchased a gift, but her mother left for a walk the following morning and never came back. Juhi recalled how, just three days later, they brought her mother back in a casket, describing the ordeal as incredibly terrible.

Mahesh Bhatt directed and Dharma Productions produced 'Duplicate.'
