#JusticeforJayarajAndFenix: Taapsee Pannu, Riteish Deshmukh, Shikhar Dhawan and others seek justice

Celebrities such as Taapsee Pannu, Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia D’souza, Shikhar Dhawan and others took to social media to seek justice for P Jayaraj and his son J Bennicks.

MUMBAI: After African American man George Floyd’s death at the hands of the cops created a furore in the US with nationwide protests across the country, now, the death of two men- P Jayaraj and his son J Bennicks, in Tuticorin, who died in police custody has sparked massive outrage in Tamil Nadu and on social media. A social media user shared a detailed video of how Jayaraj and his son Bennicks, who were picked up for questioning by cops of the Sathankulam police station for allegedly violating lockdown rules, died in police custody.

As the social media user shares shocking details of what happened to Jayaraj and his son Bennicks during their time in police custody, celebrities Taapsee Pannu, Riteish Deshmukh, Genelia D’souza, Shikhar Dhawan and others follow the trend #JusticeforJayarajAndFenix on Twitter, seeking justice for the two men and standing against police brutality. 

Taking to her official Twitter handle, actress Taapsee Pannu tweeted, “This might just be one case out of many but it takes only one case to begin the snowball effect. #JusticeforJayarajAndFenix It could’ve been anyone we know. Details are scary and gut-wrenching.” 

While Taapsee expressed her fury over the incident, Ritiesh Deshmukh called the behaviour of the police a ‘national shame’ and tweeted, “This is tragic & absolute National Shame. It sends shivers down my spine even reading about it. We all must stand together against this barbaric brutality. #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix.” Ritiesh’s wife Genelia D’souza revealed she is shocked how we have becom such a horrible race and called the incident brutal. Apart from Taapsee Pannu, Ritiesh Deshmukh, and Genelia D’Souza, cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and celebrity Vir Das also tweeted expressing their angst over the death of Jayaraj and his son Bennicks.
