MUMBAI: Smriti Kalra started her journey with Television and now, she is all set to make a mark in Bollywood. The actress will next be seen in Kaagaz 2 which also stars Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, and Darshan Kumaar.
TellyChakkar recently interacted with Smriti and spoke to her about the pressure of starring in the sequel, the actors and directors she wants to work with, and more…
Monal Gajjar played the female lead in Kaagaz and her performance was appreciated. Now, you are a part of Kaagaz 2, so does that put pressure on you to deliver a strong act in the sequel?
I didn’t get this thought at all. We cannot call Kaagaz 2 a sequel, it has become a franchise that talks about the problems of the common man. It’s a completely different film, it’s a different issue. So, you will get to watch a fresh story with a different star cast. I want to say that when I was signed up for the film they wanted a performer. They wanted a girl who looks beautiful and is also a performer.

Many TV actresses have spoken about how they don’t get lead roles in films because they come from a television background and they are stereotyped in supporting roles of sister or sister-in-law. Did you face any such thing?
No, I didn’t because if you look at my career graph on television, I have done shows which were very different. They were never a typical TV show. All my roles were different and that helped me because wherever I was called for the audition, they knew that she is a performer. So, luckily that never happened to me.
Which actors and directors do you want to work with?
We all have grown up watching Shah Rukh Khan and I am his fan. My first crush however was Hrithik Roshan. So, I want to work with them, and then there are so many actors like Ranbir, Ranveer, Rajkummar Rao, and Ayushmann Khurrana. When it comes to directors, the way Sanjay Leela Bhansali presents his heroines is so beautiful. I would love to work with Vikramaditya Motwane, as I have seen his Lootera and cried, and there are so many other directors.
