Indian Film Festival of Melbourne to mark his 20 years in Bollywood

MUMBAI: Karan Johar is one of the most renowned directors and producers in the world of Bollywood. He is known for superhit films like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gum and Kal Ho Naa Ho. 

The filmmaker made his debut in the film industry with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which stars actors Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Rani Mukerji in lead roles. Now, one of the most successful filmmakers, Karan has completed 20 years in the industry.

To mark the same, the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne will host a special screening of the 1998 blockbuster film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai on 10 August at HOYTS Melbourne Central, which will be attended by Karan. After the screening, Karan will also address the audience, talking about his debut film and its effect on the pop culture. 

An elated Karan told the media, “I’m excited to be celebrating this landmark year in my professional life at IFFM. It’s been a very rewarding 20 years of a journey and time well spent telling stories and having the freedom to be a storyteller. Filmmaking is my passion and the deep rooted love I have for cinema and being here in this time to be completing two whole decades is very gratifying. I have been to the festival before and I have loved being there. I’m looking forward to another opportunity to celebrate Indian cinema in the land down under.”
