Two of Hindi cinema’s primary screen queens Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla faced the camera together for the first time on Tuesday when they shot for Soumik Sen’s Gulab Gang in Madh Island.
Interestingly the two heroines who were touted as the closest rivals in the 1990s (with Sridevi leading ahead of both of them) hit it off immediately, partly because the unit had hit upon a golden method of unifying the two screen queens. They had devised a no-smoking club for the shooting where each time someone from the crew was caught smoking he or she had to pay a fine of Rs.500.

Apparently the two ladies had a whale of a time spotting the smokers and collecting the loot.
Said a source, “The crew was initially very apprehensive since Juhi and Madhuri were never the best of friends and quite cold to each other in their heydays. Also, the film has Madhuri in an author-backed role of an activist. Juhi has a relatively smaller role as politician. But the minute they faced the camera for the first shot the crew could sense their mutual comfort. They are no longer the fiercely competitive screen queens they used to be 15 years ago.”
We hear Madhuri and Juhi exchanged a whole lot of mother talk between shots.
Said the source, “It was quite funny because neither Madhuri nor Juhi is known to be particularly sociable on the sets. But together these two reserved ladies opened up with one another and had a blast specially on the no-smoking issue.”
