After impeccably pulling off the character of a boxer in Rajkumar Hirani's production, Saala Khadoos, the leggy lass Mumtaz Sorcar is all set to essay the role of a third gender in Amitava Bhattacharya’s next Conditions Apply.
The actress is rather tensed about how the audiences would react to her role in the flick.
Conditions Apply will see her playing the role of Chitrangada, a renowned actress in the Bengali film industry. The film will chronicle her journey of how her acting career comes to a halt once her sexual orientation becomes the talk of the town.
“It's a film on the third gender. The topic is a bit risky. If the movie is not made properly then the result will be a complete mess. Thus, I was a bit tensed about how the story would be knitted,” she told Tellychakkar.com at the music launch of the film at a city hotel.
The Bong actress added, “The character of Chitrangada is difficult to portray. Actresses usually do not play such roles. Many even wondered why I had agreed to do such a role.”
So, what inspired you to go ahead? She replied, “I always try to do roles, which are different and out of the box. After I had gone through the script, I was mesmerized. I couldn't find one single reason for which I could say no. I would rather say that I am really excited about the project, but I am also a bit anxious as this is not the character of a typical heroine.”
“I guess many might say that they did not expect Mumtaz to play such a role, but I would rather appeal to them to please watch Chitrangada and not Mumtaz in the movie. I have tried my best to get under the skin of the character and break my comfort zone,” she signed off.
Good luck, girl.
Produced by Vinayak Pictures Productions, the film is slated to release on March 4, 2016.
