The talented actress Ushasie Chakraborty says that she is hopeful that audiences would like her performance in Amitava Bhattacharya’s next ‘Conditions Apply’, where she is essaying the role of a lesbian journalist.

“I am playing the role of Stella, who is a journalist. She is lesbian and indulges into a relationship with a transgender heroine (essayed by Mumtaz Sorcar). I enjoyed playing this character as it has a lot of shades,” she said to Tellychakkar.com

When quizzed if she is worried about audience’s reaction to her role, she stated, “I think the audiences of Bengali cinema have matured over the years and these movies are not a big deal for them anymore. It might give birth to some criticisms but that is okay. We are open to all criticisms,” she added.

The Byomkesh Bakshi famed actress also explained that why certain people cannot accept such bold subjects.

Referring to lesbianism and love marriages, she opined, “Most of the times taboos develop in our mind when we are made to view things differently out of our comfort zone. Earlier, love marriages were social taboo but now it is considered as a normal thing. In some places like UP, marrying a person of a different religion is still considered as a taboo.”

“As long as it is not creating any violence, I think how two consenting adults love each other behind the closed doors should not be a concern for others. I feel there are a lot more other issues in our society where people should emphasise on for the well being of our country as a whole,” she signed off.

Produced by Vinayak Pictures Productions, the film hit the screens today (4 March) 2016.
