MUMBAI: Shahid Kapoor is gearing up for his upcoming film Jersey. During one of the film’s promotional interviews, he was asked about how he feels about living the dreams of his parents.
Talking about his mother, the actor says, “For us, we are home full of artists. My mom is a very humble person. She was at the stamp of India at the age of 16 as a Kathak dancer and exponent of an Indian dancer. A dancer who was traveling internationally. She used to go to Russia and perform. She was very young when I was born. She was only 21 when I was born. So I used to travel a lot as a kid with her. I have seen her in the prime; she might have not done mainstream films. But she was very popular when she did the show called Phir Wohi Talash where she played the character called Shehnaz. And she was tremendously loved.”
He further adds, “There is one thing that you have been seen in a big picture to many audiences and for that reason, people came to know you and you became famous. On the other hand, who may have appeared on the small screen, and your performance has been noted by the public and they have gone mad behind you. The audience completely loves you. So according to me, I feel people who made big from the small screen have more merit in my eyes. Because this achievement of seeing on a wider screen is the opportunity which is larger than the talent. But the people who had a limited opportunity and they are loved so much, is actually the talent.”
Adding more to it, he says, “My mom did something like that, my dad did Karamchand, and people just went crazy about them. It was a normal show on Television. So I think those guys went beyond the opportunities that they were given. They were able to rise above the limitations which were given to them and then they made something for themselves. So, I feel very fortunate because, when I started my career, I got a film on the big screen which was ok in my personal opinion. My parents were like very talented people who were exceptional at a very early age. I don’t think I was exceptional at an early age. I think I am getting to my best now.”
