MUMBAI: The trend of sequels and prequels has created some great films in Bollywood. These movies give the audience a sense of continuity. However, there have been instances when the makers have replaced actors in sequels. While some were accepted by the audience, others were not. Have a look.

Kajal Aggarwal
Kajal Aggarwal made her debut with Rohit Shetty’s Singham. The movie was a hit, but instead of retaining her for the second instalment, the actress was replaced with Kareena Kapoor Khan for reasons best known to the makers.

Vidya Balan
Vidya Balan garnered immense praise for her performance in Abhishek Chaubey’s ‘Ishqiya’, co-starring Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi. However, for the sequel, the makers replaced her with Madhuri Dixit.

Akshay Kumar
Anees Bazmee’s ‘Welcome’ is one of the most loved films. It starred Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles. However, when the makers planned its sequel, they roped in John Abraham in the lead role.

Ali Zafar
After earning appreciation for his performance in his debut ‘Tere Bin Laden’ back in 2010, Ali Zafar's role in the sequel to the film was drastically reduced to just a cameo. The film also won him many awards. However, in the sequel, Manish Paul was roped in as the main lead.

Arshad Warsi
Arshad Warsi played the lead role in Subhash Kapoor’s courtroom drama, ‘Jolly LLB’. After the success of the film, the makers roped in Akshay Kumar for the sequel.

Sharman Joshi
Rohit Shetty kickstarted the ‘Golmaal’ franchise with Ajay Devgn, Sharman Joshi, Tusshar Kapoor, and Arshad Warsi in the lead role. However, Sharman did not feature in any of the further instalments of the film. The makers replaced him with Shreyas Talpade.
