MUMBAI: Zeenat Aman achieved a breakthrough in the film industry and shot to stardom with Dev Anand's Hare Rama Hare Krishna. The two actors got along well, and Anand even admitted in his book that he was in love with her. Zeenat Aman recently went to a celebration honoring Dev Anand's birthday. There, she discussed how the actor-filmmaker's working style was highly distinctive from most others at the time.
The actor recounted her time spent working with Dev Anand in the video that was posted from a Mumbai event celebrating the centennial of his birth. She continued, “His films had no hairdressers. They would otherwise make bouffants and different hairstyles. But he wanted a plain look with just a parting.”

She explained when discussing why he lacked any choreographers, “He also didn’t like dance directors as they would come and teach on counts. He didn’t want all of that and would just ask one to move by the natural rhythm of the body and their mood.”
According to Zeenat Aman, the female actors in none of his films had choreographers or hair stylists. She did add that while she might not be certain of other actors, she has noticed that in most of his productions.
Zeenat Aman revealed her relationship with Raj Kapoor in a series of Instagram postings she published earlier this year about Dev Anand. Few people are aware that Anand thought Kapoor and Aman had a closer bond than just that of director and actor. Anand described how Kapoor led his romance with Aman end in his autobiography, Romancing With Life.
In Vakil Babu and Gopichand Jasoos, Zeenat Aman appeared in the film alongside Raj Kapoor. However, she only had the opportunity to have him direct her to Satyam Shivam Sundaram. On her social media, she wrote, “I was giddy to have been cast for Raj ji’s unconventional project, and put heart and soul into it. I was completely unaware that Dev saab was simultaneously misreading the situation.”
Zeenat Aman was devastated to learn Dev Anand's perspective of her and Kapoor's relationship in his autobiography, despite the fact that he never spoke to her. “Years later, in 2007, ‘Romancing with Life’, Dev Saab’s autobiography hit the stands. In it he professed that he was in love with me, and insinuated that Raj ji and I had more than a director-actor equation which broke his heart,” stated Aman.
Zeenat Aman was upset after reading what the actor had written. She added, “To be honest, I was livid. I felt humiliated, hurt and disconcerted that Dev saab, my much older mentor, a person I loved and admired platonically, would not only believe such a story devoid of a shred of truth, but would then go on to publish it for the world to read. For weeks my phone rang incessantly as friends inquired about ‘what really happened’ and shared excerpts from the book. I never did read it though, and in my anger I consigned the copy I was sent to storage in the basement!”
The actor concluded by saying that she doesn't 'tolerate' anyone disrespecting the name of Dev Anand. Then Aman said, “I will always remember Dev saab for his rare talent and warm guidance. He has my earnest gratitude and I do not tolerate disrespect to his name.”
