MUMBAI: Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan recently received a lot of appreciation and acclaim from critics and the audiences for Jhund. The film, written and directed by Nagraj Manjule, otherwise known for Sairat, is based on the fascinating story of Vijay Barse, who founded the NGO called Slum Soccer and rehabilitated streets kids by turning them away from drugs and crime and turning them into football players.
Now, keeping his angry young man avatar alive, Amitabh Bachchan shot for a TV commercial with director Amit Sharma and surprised the entire crew when he informed them, just a few minutes before the shoot, that he would perform his own stunts. Needless to say, the production crew were both impressed and surprised.
Action director Manohar Verma who choreographed the action sequence, sqid, “We were prepared with a body double but when Mr Bachchan came on set he told the director that he would prefer to perform his own stunts. We had to take a lot of precautions, too.”
Mr Bachchan had to smash three toughened glass panels one after the other and he did it in almost one take for each of them. Manohar said, “Mr Bachchan aced it like a pro and he clearly symbolises the fact that age is just a number.” Those who were present on set were reminded of the angry man of ‘Deewaar’ and ‘Zanjeer’.
Manohar has worked on projects like ‘Sardar Udham’ and ‘Mirzapur’. He has also worked on Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Shoebite’, which also had Mr Bachchan in the lead.
Meanwhile, Big B's yesteryears movies like ‘Laawaris’, ‘Coolie’, ‘Naseeb’, ‘Silsila’, ‘Sharabi’ and ‘Jaadugar’ can never be forgotten. In the year 2000, he became the first living Asian to have been immortalised in wax at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. He was also elected member of the Indian Parliament from the year 1984 to 1987. Till date, Amitabh has won numerous major awards, including four National Film Awards and fourteen Filmfare Awards.
