MUMBAI: Singer, songwriter and an extraordinary instrumentalist, Papon is one of the most sought after artists in Bollywood. While he has hits like Moh ke Dhaage, Bulleya and Humnava to his credit, there is something about this powerhouse of talent, the world doesn’t know about. Papon is a painter and loves to juggle with colours, so much so that he can’t choose between art and music as his favourite.
In a recent episode of Secret Side with Akasa on MTV Beats, the singer spoke about how he has been a passionate painter since childhood. Reminiscing about the times he would paint on the back side of calendars, Papon feels painting to him was a conscious choice whereas music came naturally. He also revealed that it was this very talent of his that impressed his wife during their courtship.
Among his favourite works, is a scenic painting of Kumaon, which he created from his photographic memory and an aerial view of Dubai as seen by him during a helicopter ride. He adds, “Every creation of mine has a story, be it my music or my paintings. When I’m painting, I am oblivious to all my worldly problems. My mind and soul is completely free and focused on the art itself.”
Being constantly praised for his voice and music, Papon chuckles that he regrets singing Moh Moh ke Dhaage, the superhit song from Dum Laga Ke Haisha. Ask him why, he says that’s because it’s the only song that people ask him to sing always.
Well, we don’t blame them Papon. Here’s waiting eagerly for more such heartfelt songs.
