It’s news that Nitin Chandra, who came to the limelight with the critically-acclaimed Bhojpuri film Deswa, had earlier signed veteran actors and brother-in-laws Naseeruddin Shah and Pankaj Kapur for his debut Hindi film Company Ustad.
The latest is that Chandra has roped in Prosenjit Chatterjee to play an important cameo in the film. Though Prosenjit’s character Chitrakar is an artist to the world but in reality he is an arms supplier who supplies arms to the revolutionists of India.
The film, set in the 1920s, is supposed to be a biopic of a man who used to counterfeit British currencies.
Incidentally, Chandra’s sister actress Neetu Chandra shall be playing a Bihari dancer. And being a Bihari and a dancer in real life, the character Neetu will play in the film, will suit her perfectly.
Meanwhile, Prosenjit is readying himself to get into the character of Bhupen Hazarika in a biopic being made by Kalpana Lajmi.
The film, a trilingual, has been tentatively titled The Tempest in English, Kal Boishakhi in Bengali and Dhumuha in Assamese. The Assamese maestro, remembered for his score in films like Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence, Gaja Gamini and Rudaali among others, passed away on 5 November, 2011.
The film will be shot in West Bengal, Bangladesh, Assam and New York. As a matter of fact, that it was in New York did Hazarika meet Paul Leroy Robeson who inspired him to write songs that celebrates life.
Being a film on the noted singer cum music director, music ought to play an important role in the biopic. Hazarika's songs would be re-mastered and used in the film.
