To introduce music baron Kumar Taurani’s son Girish Taurani as a leading man, director Prabhudheva has selected the title of a vintage Raj Kapoor song.
Ramaiya Vastavaiya is the title of a classic song from Raj Kapoor’s 1955 classic Sri 420.
Now Prabhu Deva wants permission to use that song in the film to launch Girish Taurani.
Says a source close to the project, “There is so much of Raj Kapoor’s bucolic innocence in Girish Taurani’s character. Prabhu is very keen to get the rights of the original song. Luckily, Raj Kapoor’s son Randhir Kapoor is working in Prabhu’s film. The director intends to ask Randhirji’s permission to use the song.”
However, there is this other school of thought that suggests that Prabhu would like a completely new and fresh title song for Ramaiya Vastavaiya.
When we confronted Prabhu with his ditty dilemma he admitted, “We are looking at the options. To use the original song would be a huge responsibility. We called the film Ramaiya Vastavaiya because it suits the hero’s innocence. But to use the classic song is a scary thought. Let’s see. We may decide to compose an entirely new title song. But that’s an even bigger challenge.”
It would be recalled that Aditya Chopra had dropped plans for a title song in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge only because the idea of trying to equal the song of that title composed by Ravindra Jain from the film Chor Machaye Shor was impossible.
