MUMBAI: Veteran lyricist Maya Govind passed away today at her residence in Mumbai. She was 82 and was undergoing treatment for a brain clot for the past four months. Her son Ajay shared that she had also developed a urine infection that complicated things further.
"She was deteriorating slowly because the clot in her brain was causing her problems. At times, it seemed like her condition would improve but then it would get worse. We brought her home from the hospital about a month and half back, so that we could take better care of her. This morning she passed away after suffering a heart attack," he said.
Maya Govind was married to late writer-director Ram Govind who wrote and directed 'Tohfa Mohabbat Ka'. She had penned a number of songs including 'Aankhon Mein Base Ho Tum', 'Main Khiladi Tu Anari', 'More Ghar Aaye Sajanwa', 'Gutur gutur' to name a few.

"My mother sang more than 800 songs and worked in close to 350 films. She was not active due to health reasons, but she used to love reciting her poems whenever she would visit relatives and friends. She was very close to Kalyanji-Anandji, Ramanand Sagar and Bappi Lahiri. She was very close to Khayyam saab as well. It's unfortunate that so many of her friends and associates passed away and now she's gone too. Mother was close to Dilip Sen and Sameer Sen as well," her son further said.
