Sanjay Gupta recreates Bombay for Shootout At Wadala

Writer-director Sanjay Gupta is back with the second schedule of Balaji Motion Pictures’ Shootout At Wadala, having completed the first schedule some time ago. But there is a lot of difference between the filmmaker’s earlier films and this. While earlier movies were full of verve and style, in this film the filmmaker had to get down to the basics. For this biopic tale, Gupta has recreated Bombay of the 70s. While shooting indoors for some important sequences was relatively easy, the Sanjay had to face a massive challenge to present Bombay in its three and a half decade- old form while involving minimum usage of VFX. Speaking to the filmmaker, we learnt that the entire skyline was changed while huge effort was put into extracting new models of cars and replacing them with old models. “Then we also had to show some that the iconic Air India and Oberoi buildings would be seen as never before. All thanks to high quality VFX,” observed Gupta. The film has a few sequences in which key protagonists John Abraham and Manoj Bajpai are seen running in the middle of the road. The challenge faced by the technical crew was to keep the authenticity of the bygone era without disrupting the flow of the sequence. The film also stars Anil Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Kangana Ranaut, Sonu Sood, Mahesh Manjrekar, Ronit Roy, Ranjeet, Bipasha Basu among many others. Shootout At Wadala is scheduled to release in January next year (2013).
