These days you don't know what is going to work: Rushad Rana

MUMBAI: Rushad Rana, who was recently seen in TV show Anupama, and movie Ulajh, feels that Bollywood films have gone through different phases. While earlier there were films that were hero-driven, then came a phase where it was content-driven. However, he agreed that the audience's taste cannot be predicted.

“Movies have gone through phases. Films were hero-driven before. Then the content-driven films came in. I think now there is a balance of what works. It is not necessary that you make a film with an A-lister star that is going to work. Whereas some content-driven films are really working,” he said.

“So yes, it's true that these days you don't know what is going to work, what is going to serve the palette of the audience,” he added.

Rushad also mentioned that it’s not just in the past 15 years or so that Bollywood has made women-based movies, he pointed out that the industry has always given its fair share of good roles to female actors.

“Alia Bhatt in Highway, and Janhvi Kapoor in Ulajh, or even earlier, there were actresses like Rekha ji doing Umrao Jaan. So, it’s not true that female actors had fewer opportunities in films back then,” he said.

“I believe that now, whether it's a hero driven film or an ensemble cast, the story has to be compelling or entertaining, that's what matters today. We are actually living in a time where content is king,” he ended.
